Overcoming Barriers: Jharkhand Family Achieves Ration Card Milestone Through Persistent Efforts

For over a decade (12 years), the Jharkhand family, comprising parents and three children, had been living in Chathannur without any address proof or ration card. They possessed only an Aadhar card, which offered limited benefits. However, fate smiled upon them when the district coordinator of Project KISMAT Ms Reshma Raju from the school they attended noticed their predicament.

Dukni Kumari, Anjali Kumari, and Ayush Kumar, the children who captured the coordinator’s attention, became the catalysts for change. Determined to help, the MHD Kollam paid a visit to their humble abode and met Ms Nomita Devi and Mr Kailash Sahni, uncovering the gravity of their ration card issue. It was clear that their situation demanded urgent intervention.

The Migrant Help Desk (MHD) Kollam swiftly acted, commencing the arduous task of acquiring the necessary documents and a residential certificate. On the 3rd of April 2023, negotiations with the family’s house owner began, with the MHD Kollam acting as a crucial intermediary.

Despite encountering challenges along the way, the MHD Kollam refused to falter. Through unwavering persistence and effective negotiation skills, succeeded in obtaining the elusive residential certificate for the migrant family. With this pivotal document in hand, the coordinator wasted no time and promptly assisted the family in applying for an income certificate on the 22nd of May 2023.

The process pressed forward, and against all odds, the family’s application for a ration card was finally completed on the 7th of June 2023. Remaining true to their commitment to efficiency, the concerned authorities promptly issued the ration card within the stipulated time, with the family receiving it on the 21st of June 2023.

The Jharkhand family’s journey from facing an uncertain future without basic entitlements to securing their rightful benefits is an inspiration to all. This triumph signifies the potential for positive change when communities and organizations come together to empower those in need.
