Open House at Mudavanmughal

Open forum for the children to address the conflicts, assess, review and evaluate the public services and it allows space for the children to identify solutions to problems along with the panel members.

On 25th February,2023  the open house programme was conducted by the CHILDLINE in Anganwadi no. 23 in Mudavanmughal.  The programme started around 2.30 pm and Smt. Sreedevi, Anganwadi teacher welcomed the participants and children. There were around 18 children from the nearby area of Anganwadi as well. The Anganwadi teachers were also present for the programme. The programme was co-ordinated and conducted by the CHILDLINE members –Mr.Ratheesh, Mr.Askar & Mr. hristy . The introductory session dealt with the questions on CHILDLINE what, why and for whom. The after sessions dealt with the issues related to child abuse. The class made the children aware about the issues comes under the term child abuse and what are the ways in which the child rights are protected. They explained about the different laws such as the POCSO act and Juvenile Justice Act that provides the care and protection for the children in such cases. The interaction between the members and the children created a positive atmosphere altogether in the centre.

The children were given with the opportunity to come up with the issues faced by them or by their friends. They openly shared their problems. Some of the issues mentioned by them revolving around their schools, residential areas and surroundings are as follows:

  1. Children mentioned about Stray Dog’s issue on their way to school and tuition centre. Sri. Viswanathan Nair, Secretary Residents Association noted the issue and reported to concerned authorities. 2.
  2. Waste Management issue was also discussed.
  3. Approached for exam preparation classes.

The warm up sessions were also conducted to make the children relax by giving them the message to concentrate on their studies.  The valuable feedback from the children was also recorded for the further improvement. The CHILDLINE gave assuarance to  children to solve the issues mentioned by them by contacting the appropriate authorities. The Open house was more of a mutual interaction and discussion unlike a class. The open house programme came to an end at 4.30 PM with a thanking note by Smt. Cinila L S, Mother representative of adult participants.
