An activity session was organized for the children at MSK Nagar on 3rd December 2022. Thirty-four children took part in the session. The day began with a story-telling session where Ms. Silla narrated a beautiful story of a saint and a genie. The moral of the story was ‘Mind your actions and your tongue.’ This was followed by a game session. The children were divided into 3 groups. The first game was to collect chocolates. The person to collect the maximum number of chocolates in the given time won. Next was to build a pyramid using a paper cup. The person to finish first won. The final game was to pass ‘polos’ using straws to a partner. The team to collect the maximum number of polos won.
The session ended with distributing chocolates to the children and announcing scores. Integrating activities in classes helps the children to build curiosity and encourages them to be attentive in classes. This also helps to build a positive relationship with the teachers. This also opens a way for children who hate learning to start loving the process of learning.
Remedial Education for the economically backward students at MSK Nagar is an initiative by the Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu Society for their upliftment. Children in the slums are deprived of quality education as they are discriminated against at school and need support to bridge their learning lags. Remedial Education is an effective tool to help them acquire quality education and understand the importance of education.
