Vidyarambham is a Hindu tradition observed on Vijayadashami day mainly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and coastal Karnataka, where children are formally introduced to learning of music, dance, languages and other folk arts. Don Bosco Nivas conducted one day program related to the special day. The programs were skit competition, music competition, quiz competition and other games. Distribution of educational materials also were conducted.
Vidyarambham also called Akshara Abhyasam or Vidya Arambham is an important Hindu tradition that is observed on the Vijayadashami day. Vidyarambham is a beautiful ritual, and a Hindu tradition, wherein toddlers are introduced to the world of knowledge. This ritual is regarded to be a significant day to initiate the process of learning, particularly in young children.
On this day of Vidyarambham Devi Saraswati, the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge and teachers or Gurus should be rendered ‘Gurudakshina’ as an emblem of Thanksgiving.
