A three-month tailoring course by as part of the AWAKE Project by Don Bosco Veedu Trivandrum has helped seven women learn the art of dressmaking and discover new confidence—both in their skills and in themselves. The program, called TIGRESS. It offered basic training in stitching clothes such as blouses, churidars, tops, and children’s frocks. Of the ten women who joined, seven completed the training and received certificates on June 6.But the course wasn’t just about sewing.“It was a great coming together for us,” said Lali James, who coordinated the program. “We didn’t just learn to stitch. We grew close as a group and encouraged each other.”Fr. Jiji Kalavanal, Rector of Don Bosco Veedu, explained the meaning behind the name TIGRESS:“A tigress is strong and caring. She fights for her family. In the same way, a woman who earns her own income can stand tall and support those she loves.”The success of the program has sparked interest among others in the community. A second round of training is already planned to begin later this month, with new participants ready to learn, grow, and build a better future.
