Maranalloor: A Mushroom Skill Training Programme was organized at DVMNNMHSS Maranalloor as part of the National Service Scheme (NSS) activities of the school. The programme aimed to empower women by providing practical knowledge on mushroom cultivation and its nutritional benefits.
The session was led by Ms. Kavya S.A., Social Worker of Don Bosco VeeDu Society. She explained the step-by-step process of mushroom cultivation, including preparation of the growing medium, spawning, watering, maintenance, harvesting, and storage techniques. Participants were also guided on how to start small-scale mushroom farming at home with minimal investment.
During the class, Ms. Kavya highlighted the nutritional importance of mushrooms, emphasizing their high protein content, vitamins, minerals, and immunity-boosting properties. She also explained how mushroom cultivation can serve as a sustainable livelihood option for women, contributing to family income and food security.
A total of 15 women actively participated in the programme. The session was interactive, with participants engaging in discussions and clarifying their doubts regarding cultivation practices and marketing possibilities.
The programme reflects the NSS unit’s dedication to promoting women empowerment, health awareness, and self-reliance through practical skill development initiatives.
