Medical Camp and Anti-Tobacco Awareness Program, Palakkad

Palakkad Migrants’ Help Desk organized medical and Anti-Tobacco awareness programme for the guest workers in collaboration with Migrants Suraksha Project at Ideal Crumb Rubber Company on 19th May 2023.

Shri. Shanoy P M (Palakkad Migrants’ Help Desk Coordinator) took Awareness Class on the Impact of tobacco in Human life and Body at Ideal Crumb Rubber Company, Palakkad.

Palakkad Migrants’ Help Desk organized medical and Anti-Tobacco awareness programme for the guest workers in collaboration with Migrants Suraksha Project at Ideal Crumb Rubber Company on 19th May 2023. The program began with the welcoming words of Suraksha Project ORW Mr. Martin and then followed by the inauguration of the program by the Company owner Mr. Babu where he insisted the guest workers to create a strong bond with the family members and with the colleagues in the company to reduce the use of tobacco. He also advised them to involve sincerely in the duties which would help to prevent the thought of using tobacco or any such type of substances. 

KISMAT district coordinator Mr. Shanoy took effort to bring attention of the guest workers on the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and diseases it causes.  He also conscientized them on high risk of suffering from cancer diseases after rapid use of tobacco and also face significant issues of chronic respiratory diseases. After the concluding session, guest workers made use the availability of the doctors and medicines. Migrant Suraksha Project team conducted screening of AIDS under the leadership of the project ORW Shri. Martin. There were about 63 guest workers who benefited from the camp. The guest workers who took part in the camp were mainly from Odisha.

The program helped the guest workers to have free consultation with the doctors for a number of health-related problems like skin infections and also problem related with digestive issues. Some of the guest workers mentioned that they do not get proper guidance at their native place and the session was really an eye opening for many of us.  The class was really informative and we would follow the guidance given in the class.
