Summer camp is a community where children come together to have fun while learning lifelong lessons. The setting of the camp is such that children start developing a sense of independence while trying new adventures. Summer camps are known for their safe environment and the fun activities for kids that they provide. The summer camp activities help develop a variety of social skills including communication and conflict resolution.
The day began by following the general time table which includes meditation, exercise, morning job etc. The day’s communicative English lectures were taken by Br. Joseph Xavier that included the learning of regular and irregular verbs. Learning the patterns of regular verbs and understanding irregular verbs really helps children to understand English and be fluent in its speaking.
Followed by this, a session on the topic ‘Sex education & growing in a healthy relationship’ was organised which was taken by Amala Shivakumar, adolescent counselor of Women and Children Hospital, Thycaud. Providing Sex Education to adolescents is as important as teaching the other topic. It helps to navigate the relationship in teenagers. Because of inconsistent laws & policies too many youngsters are not getting precise sex education. However, sex education helps teenagers to know their bodies biologically. Children were enthusiastic throughout the session asking doubts regarding the topic with the resource person. Along with this, Marvel Studios, the musical instrument session was also organised which comprised guitar, chenda, keyboard and flute lectures.
In the end, a night programme named ‘ABCD – Any Body Can Dance’ was coordinated under the supervision of Br. Ajil Skaria which incorporated games related to dance. Team ‘Wanda Vision’ secured the winning title of the day.
MIRACLE is a project that assists children who have been separated from their primary carers to keep them out of the system. MIRACLE provides skill training, English training, counselling, and financial assistance for the education of 40 children in the Trivandrum district.
