Don Bosco Nivas observed International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3rd 2022 by making paper files. Mr. Immanuel, Educator and other social work trainees facilitated the kids in making beautiful paper files. The initiative by Don Bosco Nivas Trivandrum on International Plastic Day set out a great example. The kids made paper files as substitutes for non-degradable plastic files.
This was an attempt to promote environment sustainability and to develop listening, observation and awareness skill among the children. “If you want to bring change, be the change”, change is initiated from the home itself by replacing the plastic ones with paper files. It is a small initiative, but a major stepping stone towards a greener environment.
International Plastic Free Day is a call to action that brings attention to the plastic we use every day. Over 380 million tons of plastic is produced every year. Half of all plastic produced is single-use – meaning, it’s thrown away after just one use. International Plastic Free Day creates awareness of just how much plastic we use every day, and how we can use less of it.
Don Bosco Nivas is an Open Shelter Home in Trivandrum. It is a major initiative to address children’s issues and isolation by rescuing and reconnecting them with the significant family members. Open shelter home fulfils the basic needs of children such as food, clothing, shelter, education, medical and free boarding and lodging etc and the shelter is provided for three months with an objective such as restoration and protection of a child in need of care and protection and shall function as a community-based facility for children in need of residential support, on short-term basis, with the objective of protesting them from abuse or keeping them away from a life on the streets.
