A Family Life Education session was organized at Sahayamatha Church for the elders of the parish, focusing on the importance of positive parenting in today’s families. The programme was facilitated by the interns of NIVAS from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The session highlighted the aim of positive parenting and its significant impact on children’s emotional, behavioral, and social development. The interns explained various types of parenting styles—authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful—discussing their positive and negative effects on children.
Through interactive discussions and practical examples, the elders were encouraged to reflect on their parenting approaches and understand how supportive communication, balanced discipline, and emotional warmth contribute to a child’s healthy growth.
The participants actively engaged in the session, sharing their experiences and concerns. Their suggestions and feedback were also collected to better understand family challenges within the parish community.
The programme concluded on a thoughtful note, reinforcing the importance of nurturing children with love, guidance, and responsible parenting practices.
