A drug awareness programme was recently held at St. Thomas HSS, Amboori organized by the DREAM Project. The primary goal of the program was to educate students on the harmful effects of drugs and emphasize the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle. Ms. Neha Joseph, the Coordinator of DREAM Trivandrum, and Ms. Anooja, the project’s counsellor, led the event, focusing on the many ways drugs can negatively impact personal lives, including relationships with family and friends. The session began with an informative presentation, using clear visuals and straightforward examples to demonstrate how drugs affect physical health, mental well-being, and future ambitions. Through these visuals, students could better grasp how drug use could interfere with their goals and dreams. The facilitators also shared real-life stories of individuals who had battled addiction, helping students understand the serious and far-reaching effects that drug dependency can have on one’s life.

An important aspect of the program was its interactive format, encouraging students to participate by asking questions and sharing their own views and experiences. This approach helped create a comfortable environment where students could openly discuss common issues, such as handling peer pressure. The team provided valuable advice on recognizing early signs of addiction and emphasized the importance of reaching out to trusted adults, teachers, or counsellors for support if they or someone they know is struggling with substance use.

The drug awareness program at St. Thomas HSS, Amboori demonstrated the DREAM Project’s commitment to promoting a drug-free society. By the end of the session, students had a clearer understanding of the risks of drug use, and many felt empowered to make healthier choices for their future. The program left a strong impression, motivating students to stay drug-free and prioritize their well-being.
