As part of the ongoing efforts of the DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education And
Mentoring) Project, a significant awareness program on drug abuse was conducted
at PSNM Higher Secondary School, Chirayinkeezhu. The session aimed to educate
students about the dangers of drug use and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The program was led by Ms. Neha Joseph, Coordinator of DREAM Trivandrum, and
Ms. Anooja, Counselor with DREAM. They provided valuable insights into the
physical, mental, and social consequences of drug addiction. The session
highlighted how substance abuse affects academic performance, personal
relationships, and future opportunities.
The session began with a visual presentation incorporating real-life examples to
illustrate the harmful effects of drug use. The facilitators explained the science
behind addiction and how it can lead to severe health issues and disrupt family life.
The interactive approach of the program encouraged active student participation.
Discussions focused on ways to handle peer pressure, recognize early signs of
addiction, and seek support from trusted adults, teachers, or counselors.
The students showed keen interest in the topic, asking thoughtful questions about
addiction, recovery, and preventive measures. The facilitators addressed their
concerns and provided practical strategies to make informed choices. The
awareness program at PSNM Higher Secondary School, Chirayinkeezhu
successfully reinforced the mission of the DREAM Project in empowering young
minds with the knowledge and guidance needed to lead a drug-free life.
