The DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education and Mentoring) Project organized an
impactful awareness session at Government High School, Vithura aimed at
educating students about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting healthy living.
The goal of the session was to equip students with the knowledge to avoid the
harmful effects of drugs and lead a drug-free life.
The session was conducted by Ms. Neha Joseph, Coordinator of the DREAM
Project, and Ms.Anooja Counselor of the project. They shared insightful information
about the detrimental effects of drug addiction on one’s physical health, mental well-
being, and social relationships. They highlighted how substance abuse can severely
disrupt academic performance, family dynamics, friendships, and personal goals.
The session began with a detailed presentation featuring real-life stories of
individuals whose lives were impacted by drug abuse. The facilitators discussed the
biological process of addiction and the long-term consequences it can have on the
body and mind. The students were engaged in an open discussion, where they could
ask questions and reflect on how addiction affects not just individuals but their
families and communities.
Practical strategies were shared on how students could resist peer pressure,
recognize early signs of addiction, and approach trusted adults such as teachers,
counselors, or family members for help. The facilitators also emphasized the
importance of a strong support system, which could be crucial in preventing drug
abuse and aiding recovery.
Throughout the session, students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful and
relevant questions about prevention, recovery, and making informed life choices.
The facilitators offered advice on making healthy decisions, staying strong in the face
of challenges, and seeking help when needed. The awareness program at
Government High School, Vithura was a resounding success, contributing to the
DREAM Project’s mission of empowering young individuals to stay informed and
lead a life free from drugs.
