A significant awareness program on drug abuse was conducted at Evan High
School, Parassala under the initiative of the DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education
And Mentoring) Project. The session aimed to educate students about the harmful
effects of drugs and the importance of a drug-free life. The program was led by Ms.
Neha Joseph, Coordinator of DREAM Trivandrum, and Ms. Anooja, Counselor with
DREAM. They provided valuable insights into how drug use impacts not only
physical health but also mental well-being, academic performance, and personal
relationships. The session began with a visual presentation that used real-life
examples and clear illustrations to highlight the dangers of substance abuse. The
facilitators explained how addiction can lead to serious health problems, disrupt
personal and family life, and limit future opportunities.
A key aspect of the program was its interactive approach, encouraging students to
participate actively. They engaged in discussions on handling peer pressure and
identifying early signs of addiction. The team emphasized the importance of seeking
help from trusted adults, teachers, or counselors when faced with such challenges.
The students showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, asking insightful questions
about drug addiction and its consequences. The session successfully provided them
with knowledge and practical strategies to make informed choices. This awareness
program at Evans High School, Parassala reinforced the DREAM Project’s
commitment to building a drug-free society by empowering young minds with
education and guidance.
