A drug abuse awareness program was organized at White Memorial College under the DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education And Mentoring) Project. The session aimed to educate college students on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making responsible life choices. Ms. Neha Joseph, Coordinator of DREAM Trivandrum, and Ms. Anooja, Counselor with DREAM, led the session. They shared valuable insights on how drug addiction impacts physical and mental health, academic performance, career opportunities, and personal relationships. The session began with a visual presentation featuring real-life incidents and statistical data related to drug use among young adults. The facilitators explained how addiction can lead to severe health complications, financial instability, legal consequences, and social isolation. They also discussed the role of peer pressure, stress, and curiosity in influencing drug use.
The program encouraged active participation from students through discussions and interactive activities. The facilitators guided them on recognizing early warning signs of addiction and adopting healthy coping strategies to manage stress and peer influence. They also emphasized the importance of seeking help from professionals, mentors, or trusted individuals when dealing with substance-related challenges. Students showed keen interest throughout the session, engaging in meaningful discussions and asking insightful questions about drug addiction, rehabilitation, and preventive measures. The session provided them with essential knowledge and practical strategies to make better choices in life. This awareness program at White Memorial College reaffirmed the DREAM Project’s mission to build a drug-free society by empowering young adults with education, awareness, and guidance for a healthier future.
