On 23rd June 2023 CHILDLINE team conducted a half day awareness session at Govt. VHSS, Pazhayasalai, Chalai, Trivandrum. Smt. Rajasree, School Principal requested an awareness sessions for higher secondary students especially about the consequences of drug addiction, mobile addiction and tackling of teenage issues. The lives of many children and adolescents are today increasingly influenced by new technological devices, including smartphones. In the session, we mainly focused on the consequences and tips for how to get rid of addictions. Students asked about the coping mechanism for stress. When individuals are subjected to a stressor, the varying ways of dealing with it are termed ‘coping styles,’ which are a set of relatively stable traits that determine the individual’s behaviour in response to stress. Feeling emotional and nervous or having trouble sleeping and eating can all be normal reactions to stress. Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including those on social media are the tips suggested to practice to the students. It’s good to be informed but hearing about the traumatic event constantly can be upsetting. Consider limiting news to just a couple of times a day and disconnecting from phone, TV, and computer screens for a while. Take care of ourselves. Eat healthy, exercise, get plenty of sleep, and give yourself a break if you feel stressed out. Take care of our body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate, and try to do some other activities you enjoy. Avoid drugs and alcohol, these may seem to help, but they can create additional problems and increase the stress you are already feeling. And recognize when needed more help talk to a psychologist, social worker, or professional counselor. Mr. Pramod and Mrs. Devi handled the sessions. Students actively participated in the session. They clarified doubts in between the sessions. Finally there is a feedback session from Mrs. Usha, Principal in charge and also from the student’s side.
