World Day Against Child Labour

“കരുതൽ” is a four days program conducted by Railway Child Help Desk at different Railway stations with variant stake holders.   “Week of Action against Child Labour” is the theme for the 2023 World Day against Child Labour. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) intends to start a week-long campaign to raise public awareness of the injustice of child labour and inspire people to take action.

As part of the day observance, Railway Child Help Desk in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit and Railway Protection Force conducted Outreach Search Drive in Trivandrum Central Railway Station, Pettah Railway Station, Kochuveli Railway Station and Kollam Railway Station. Also Provide awareness and search drive in running trains such as Kerala Express, Island Express, Chennai Mail, Nagercoil Passenger and Sabari Express.  World Day Against Child Labour is a one week program and conducted in variety of programs in this week.

Program 1

Intermediate Railway Station Outreach Awareness Program at Pettah Railway Station

On 12th June 2023, Thiruvananthapuram Railway Childline conducted Station Outreach at Pettah Railway Station as part of World Day against Child Labour. Station Master granted permission to spread Childline awareness at the Railway Station premises. In this program, Anti Child Labour Day awareness and CHILDLINE awareness were provided by distributing brouchers to the Stall Vendors, Passengers, children,  Auto drivers, Pre paid Auto Counter Staff, Taxi Drivers, and Kerala Koumudi Staff. They actively participated in this program and promised to support our service. Mrs. Zeena Sunil (Coordinator, Railway CHIDLINE, TVC), Mr. Jeffin John (Counsellor, RCHD), Mr. Rejeesh Raj and Mr. Sajeev (Team members, RCHD, TVC) were led the program.

Railway Childline conducted Railway station outreach at nearest Railway Stations which aims to spread the awareness about CHILDLINE and the functions of Railway Childline. The Railway Station outreaches helps to provide friendly relationship with the stakeholders and ensures the safety of the children who come across the Railway Station.

Program 2

Search Drive at Trains

Tag Line: Thiruvananthapuram Railway CHILDLINE conducted Station Search Drive program in collaboration with Railway Protection Force (TVC) at trains regarding World Day against Child Labour

On 12th June 2023, Thiruvananthapuram Railway CHILDLINE in collaboration with Railway Protection Force, Central Station, TVC conducted a Joint Search Drive in running trains such as Chennai Mail Express and Sabari Express regarding ” World Day against Child Labour”.  Mrs. Zeena Sunil ( Coordinator, RCHD) and Mr. Rejeesh Raj ( Team member, TVPM) along with the RPF team went to Kollam Railway Station by Chennai Mail Express and returned back to Sabari Express.  At Kollam Railway Station, team gave awareness to the variant stakeholders with RPF Kollam and RPF, TVC. During the Search drive in trains, we gave awareness about the Violation of Child Rights & it’s Consequences which is the highlight of the session and it provided to the passengers who were travelling in the train.  Following that RCHD Team Members Mrs. Beena and Mrs. Thahira joined a “Candle March” conducted by RPF at the Central Station,  TVC as part of World Day against Child Labour.

Program 3

Outreach Drive at Central Station, TVC

Tag Line: Thiruvananthapuram Railway CHILDLINE conducted a Outreach Drive program in collaboration with District Protection Force (DCPU), Thiruvananthapuram at Central Station, TVC and trains regarding World Day against Child Labour

On 13th June 2023, a special outreach was conducted by Railway Childline, Thiruvananthapuram in collaboration with DCPU as part of World Day Against Child Labour week observance. Mrs. Zeena Sunil (Coordinator, RCHD, TVC). Mr. Jeffin John (counselor, TVC), Ms. Aiswarya Lawrence (Team Member, RCHD, TVC) and the staff of DCPU Mr. Rahul, Mr. Liju and Ms. Anju were conduct outreach, search drive and awareness on child labour in Kerala Express, Island Express and Chennai Central Express and covered passengers of all 5 platforms. In between the program, RPF SI Ms. Varsha joined the team and she also gave awareness to the passengers in the trains especially the Migrant people regarding Child Labour.  A posters related to Stop Child Labour was pasted on all the shops in the Central Railway Station, TVC and distributed Childline Brochures over 400 passengers including Railway officials, Porters & Cleaning Staff.

Program 4

Joint Search Outreach Drive at Kochuveli Railway Station

On 15th June 2023, Thiruvananthapuram Railway CHILDLINE conducted a Joint Search Outreach Drive in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit & RPF Kochuveli at Kochuveli Railway Station as part of World Day against Child Labour Week observance. Station Master Mr. Anil Kumar granted the permission to spread Childline awareness at the Railway premises. In this program we convey about the importance of banning child labour, Importance of education, Childline & It’s Activities were provided to the General public, Railway officials, TTEs, Cleaning Stall, Stall vendors, Auto drivers  Parking staff & Migrant Labours. They actively participated in this program and promised to support our service. Anti child labour posters were pasted on the shop walls & also distributed pamphlets to them. Ms. Aiswarya Lawrence and Mr. Sreelal (Team Members, RCHD) led the program with DCPU staff Mr. Rahul and Mr. Vipin.

Railway Childline is an active and effective part of Childline. The outreach programs of the project mainly focused on child protection and providing awareness about Childline and its activities.
