Don Bosco Nivas is an NGO that caters to the needs of orphaned children who are in desperate needs of organizations that can provide them with educational and financial aids without institutionalizing them. As a trainee, I had the privilege to work with and gain exposure in all the fields Don Bosco Nivas is currently engaged in. The first week was all about learning what the organization stood for, about the different projects undertaken and understanding the work atmosphere. By the second week, the trainee had written reports for the Global Giving website and developed tools to aid the project which will help in effective planning and implementation. Trainee also wrote reports, organized files and entered data on behalf of the visit from the Ministry of Women and Child Development as well as planned activities and programs for Shelter home and MIRACLE Project that can be held in the future while observing important days. FINSPIRE Program organized by FINASTRA was held at Travancore Convention Center by the end of second week. It was during this time that the trainee got the opportunity to interact with the children who are sponsored by the organization. The trainee did the children's hair and makeup on the day of the programme for those kids taking part in the events. Trainee tutored children from 1st standard to 3rd standard at a nearby community on behalf of the tutoring program by MIRACLE Project. While working with CHILDLINE and Railway CHILDLINE, trainee gained exposure in outreach, writing case studies, answering CHILDLINE phone calls and entering data in case files. Other than fulfilling the work given to the trainee by the project coordinators, other fieldwork objectives like carrying out casework, group work and writing project proposal was also completed. On behalf of Group work, the trainee took classes on health and hygiene, sustainable development goals, and even taught the children tips on Basic English communication. Shelter home was the most enjoyable experience at Don Bosco Nivas as the children was very social and friendly. Trainee was surprised to see how fast the new children adapted to their new surroundings and became friends with one another. In order to fulfill an objective and to learn about the common health problems faced by the community at Karimadon Colony, trainee visited the Urban Primary Health Center and interacted with the doctor. An environment program will be conducted on the trainees last day at MSK Nagar in order to promote organic farming. Overall, the field work experience at Don Bosco Nivas was very rewarding. The trainee gained practical knowledge and learned to establish a supportive and positive relationship with children from different settings. Trainee was able to break past communication barriers with children from other states and gained skills in rapport building.
