
Thiruvananthapuram: An impactful drug awareness class was conducted at SMV Govt. Model Higher Secondary School, Thampanoor, aiming to educate students about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices.
The session was led by Mr. Akhil Devasia, Project Coordinator of the Shelter Home. A total of 65 students actively participated in the programme. The class was designed in a participatory manner, encouraging students to share their thoughts, ask questions, and reflect on real-life situations related to peer pressure and substance use.
The session covered the harmful physical, psychological, and social effects of drug abuse. Mr. Akhil emphasized the importance of self-control, positive peer influence, and goal setting in preventing addiction. Students were also guided through a short meditation exercise to help them manage stress and improve focus.
The programme further highlighted the role of self-motivation, healthy coping strategies, and supportive relationships in leading a drug-free life. The interactive nature of the session made it engaging and meaningful for the students.
The initiative reflects continued efforts to create awareness among youth and promote informed decision-making for a healthier and safer future.
