DREAM (Drug Rehabilitation Education and Mentoring) Trivandrum, in collaboration with
the Department of Women and Child Development, organized a Mentors Training Program
for school counselors in the Trivandrum district. The program focused on the topics of
psychotherapy and addiction. The session aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of
school counselors in addressing issues related to addiction and providing effective
psychotherapy. The main objective of the program was to equip school counselors with
advanced knowledge and skills in psychotherapy, to deepen understanding of addiction and
its impact on individuals, especially students, to provide practical strategies for addressing
addiction issues in a school setting and to foster collaboration between DREAM Trivandrum
and the Department of Women and Child Development in supporting the mental health and
well-being of students.
The program was inaugurated by Smt. Kavitharani, Director of the District Women and Child
Development Department. And Fr. Joby Sebastian, Director of DREAM Trivandrum,
presided over the event. The core of the program consisted of classes conducted by Shri Sigi
Antony, Vice Principal of TRADA. Shri Sigi Antony provided an in-depth exploration of
various psychotherapy techniques and their application in treating individuals with addiction
issues. The session included discussions on therapeutic approaches, case studies, and
practical exercises. The training included a comprehensive overview of addiction, its causes,
effects, and treatment options. Shri Antony highlighted the psychological and physiological
aspects of addiction and the role of counselors in supporting individuals through the recovery
process. The program included interactive discussions where participants engaged in
conversations about real-life scenarios and case studies related to psychotherapy and
addiction.
The Mentors Training Program organized by DREAM Trivandrum, in collaboration with the
Department of Women and Child Development, successfully met its objectives of enhancing
the skills and knowledge of school counselors in dealing with psychotherapy and addiction.
DREAM Trivandrum remains committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of
students through such impactful training sessions and looks forward to future collaborations
to further this mission.
