Children Attending their routine Malayalam and English classes

On March 9th, 2024, the kids in the SPARK project had a full day of classes at Don Bosco Nivas, running from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There had been nine students present. At the start of the session, an energizer was used to set the mood. The interns taught a group of children the fundamentals of Malayalam, teaching them how to recognise and form letters with words. The other group of children had English lessons focused mostly on “My body parts-specific,” and they were also introduced to Indian States and their capital cities. The children were taught about specific body parts and made to revise and also test paper were put up. Children received copywriting instruction in Malayalam.

The afternoon session included physical activities in addition to memory and concentration exercises. Each task had to be finished in groups, and both individual and group participation earned points. At the conclusion of the session, the children on the team that won received individual munchies as a token of recognition for their performance, while the other kids received chocolates. Children left for their homes by 4 p.m.

SPARK is an initiative to reinforce the academic and non-academic competencies of deprived, vulnerable, and semi-orphan children living in our operational areas. The project focuses on a holistic development model offering year-round academic preparation and supplementary education.
