Kozhikode Migrants’ Help Desk organized a heartwarming Onam Celebration, Educational Support Materials Distribution, Awareness Programme for the migrants’ children to facilitate their access to education and integration in the society in collaboration with Don Bosco College and DREAM Project at Don Bosco College, Mampetta, Kozhikode on 26th August 2023

Shri. Adul (Kozhikode District Coordinator of DREAM Project) took Awareness Class on the topic “Drugs and Today’s Children; Safe Measures to Prevent It” at Don Bosco College, Mampetta, Kozhikode

Don Bosco Migrants’ Help Desk delivered School kits to 40 migrant children to facilitate their access to education and integrate into the society. The kit distribution took place together with Onam celebration and awareness program to forewarn the guest workers children on the topic “Drugs and Today’s Children; Safe Measures to Prevent It” in collaboration with Don Bosco College and DREAM Project on 26th August 2023. Kozhikode MHD had a thought in line with the need of the migrant children to ensure the right to comprehensive education aimed at full development of their personality, aptitudes, mental and physical capabilities up to the maximum potential and minimizing the school dropouts.  

The program started with the registration almost by 09:30am and then official program by 10:30am.  “As the Centre of Migrants’ Help, we reiterate our commitment to work together in the care of vulnerable group of unaccompanied migrants and their children”, Said Shanoy PM, KISMAT Kozhikode district coordinator in his welcome address.  The program continued with the presidential address by the Kozhikode district director of KISMAT Fr. Martin Augustine SDB where he began with a short poem indicating the beautiful creation of a squirrel and the lovely strips on his body to indicate that we should not destroy our beautiful life with the influences of any drugs. The Programme was blessed with the presence of Mukkom Municipality Chairman Shri. P T Babu who was kind enough to inaugurated the program.   His speech mainly highlighted the extended support of the government for the migrants in Kerala and also appreciated the great effort of Don Bosco KISMAT project to address the issues of the migrants in the district which is otherwise impossible to achieve.

The third phase of the program was input session and Onam Celebration under the guidance and supervision of Shri. Adul, coordinator of DREAM Project. Having briefed the meaning of drugs, he described on what are major possibilities of reaching intoxicants to children like stamps, sweets. The session was heartwarming experience for children filled with engagement, input sessions, games and interactions.  Moreover, he directed the children on the need to keep away from the such intoxicants for a creating safer society and better nation. The children were relaxed and mind refreshing from the different games and delicious lunch which were ever cherishing memories of Onam at Don Bosco College, Mampetta.    

The entire event was seamlessly successful one in creating a confidence among the migrant children to go ahead in life and also filled with joy, learning, and shared experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and supporting to the grab the basic right to achieve the education together with a platform for integration to the society where they live now.
