The Kollam Migrant Help Desk, in collaboration with Prathyasa for Integrated Social Action, a like-minded NGO, organized an awareness class and training workshop for 26 interstate migrants in Kollam on 2nd July. The primary objective of these sessions was to create awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy and hygienic environment during the rainy season, thereby reducing the prevalence of seasonal diseases. Additionally, the workshop aimed to equip migrants with practical skills, such as soap making, that could be utilized to generate income.
Interstate Migrants were educated about the various diseases that are more prevalent during this period and the precautions they can take to protect themselves through the session taken by MHD Kollam Coordinator. Topics covered included proper sanitation practices, the importance of clean water, effective waste management, and personal hygiene.
A significant component of the workshop was the hands-on training session on soap making. Migrants were introduced to the art of making soap solutions using simple and easily accessible ingredients. The workshop aimed to equip them with practical skills that could be used to generate income for themselves. By teaching them how to create soap, they could potentially start small-scale soap-making businesses or use the skill for personal use.
