The Kollam MHD organized a celebration on Labour Day on 1st May 2023 at KISMAT villages in Karithura in Kollam in collaboration with Prathyasa for Integrated Social Action. The celebration become more cheerful when 75 ISMs actively participated in the venture. The Kollam MHD coordinator welcomed all the members to the program Followed by an awareness class on Labour rights and labour laws was taken by Mr Alan Samuel a law student and previous coordinator of the desk. This imparted the consciousness of rights that protect workers from exploitation, discrimination, and other forms of abuse, and upholding these rights requires strong legal protections, effective enforcement mechanisms, and a commitment to promoting decent work environments. The Kollam MHD coordinator took an effort to make the interstate migrants about the need for a hygienic environment at their place of stay so that they can avoid diseases and lead more healthy lifestyles, and the need of making savings rather than invest too much money in playing cards and buying alcohol and other substances that affect their physical health and financial stability adversely. Both two sessions were effective in the sense that pushed the members to discuss the bad habits of inmates and how they affect all. This celebration gave a platform for the migrants to have an open discussion to express their opinions and feel free from their worries.
