Open House at MSK Nagar

Open forum for the children to address the conflicts, assess, review and evaluate the public services and it allows space for the children to identify solutions to problems along with the panel members.

SHO inaugurating the Open House

CHILDLINE Trivandrum conducted the open house programme at MSK Nagar.  The programme started around 4.30 pm and Mrs. Mereena Emmanuel welcomed the participants and children. Sri. Dinesh A, SI of Fort Police Station inaugurated and Sri. Mohanan Nair, Ward concilor presided the open house.  Sri. Abhijith, SI of Police and Mr.Manoj Chandran, Secretary, MSK Nagar Residents Association were delivered felicitation to the function.  There were around 35 children and 20 adults from the nearby area of MSK Nagar Colony participated.

The Anganwadi teachers were also present for the programme. The programme was co-ordinated and conducted by the CHILDLINE members. The interaction between the members and the children created a positive atmosphere altogether in the centre.

The children were given with the opportunity to come up with the issues faced by them or by their friends. They openly shared their problems. Some of the issues mentioned by them revolving around their schools, residential areas and surroundings are as follows:

1. Lack of Street light, Ward Member noted the details

2. The playground has been invaded by anti-socials for drug using, and they destroying the street lights: Ward Member and Police noted the problem, decided to put CCTVs,

3. Repairing and furnishing Reading room, Ward Counselor reported to Corporation office

4. Waste management, Ward Member noted the details

5. Eve teasing, Police patrolling assured

6. Substance Abuse Issues, Youth Groups Formation and awareness classes were assured by Police and CHILDLINE

The warm up sessions were also conducted to make the children relax by giving them the message to concentrate on their studies.  The valuable feedback from the children was also recorded for the further improvement. The CHILDLINE gave assurance to  children to solve the issues mentioned by them by contacting the appropriate authorities. The Open house was more of a mutual interaction and discussion unlike a class. The open house programme came to an end at 5.30 PM with a thanking note by Mr. R T Sivaprasad.
