A football tournament was organized by Excise and Labour Departments in collaboration with KISMAT on 8th January 2023. The tournament was conducted at Bethany St. John’s Higher Secondary School, Kunnamkulam as part of VIMUKTI mission of Government of Kerala. The main aim of the tournament was to spread awareness among the migrants about the harmful effects of substance usage. Welcome speech was delivered by the Excise Inspector Mr. Sajeesh Kumar, the tournament was officially inaugurated by the Municipal Ward Councilor Kunnamkulam Mr. Biju C Baby and felicitation speeches were delivered by the Principal of Bethany St. John’s Higher Secondary School, Kunnamkulam Fr. Pathrose and Assistant Labour Officer Mr. Rafeeque.
An awareness session on harmful effects of substantial use was taken by the KISMAT, Thrissur District Coordinator Mrs. Sruthi Menon. Interns of KISMAT, Thrissur had also contributed to the success of the tournament by readying teams, doing commentary, noting down the scores of each and was active till the end of the tournament. The tournament consisted of a total of 6 teams, from which the team from Choondal named Unni’s Cottage FC emerged as winners and the team named Star Viswas FC became runners up of the tournament. Mr. Muralom from Unni’s Cottage FC was selected as the best player of the tournament scoring a total of 5 goals in the tournament which include the winning goal of the finals and Mr. Farhad from Unni’s Cottage FC also caped the best goal keeper of the tournament award by making 2 tremendous saves in the finals. The trophies for all the winners were distributed by the Municipal Chairperson Smt. Seetha Raveendran
