Don Bosco Nivas, Thiruvananthapuram observed World Television Day on Monday, 21st November 2022. It was indeed to observe the day because Television has been recognized to have an increased impact on decision-making as well as being an ambassador for the entertainment industry. It is a symbol of communication that educates, informs, entertains, and influences our decisions and opinions. A session was conducted for the inmates of Shelter Home. Ms. Mehna Riza, Internship Student, gave a talk about the Advantages and Disadvantages of Wonderful World of Colors. She hinted at the positives and negatives of television. The positive side of television helps in redesigning information, is flexible, is a source of entertainment that keeps us refreshed provides exposure to the world, and acts as a medium for conveying information. On the other hand, television influences children’s education and their psychological circumstances sometimes giving inappropriate visuals for children, affecting health, encouraging violence, and creates distance from society by replacing family and companions. The session was very helpful for the children to recognize the importance of observing the day and also to understand the two sides of the picture.
