Mr. Riyas Raja (Circle Inspector, Pettah Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram) addressed the students of Pettah during the Open House Program

Thiruvananthapuram Railway Childline conducted an Open House programme on October 29, 2022, at Pettah Anganwadi Center no. 49, Pettah LPS, Thiruvananthapuram.  The welcome speech and introduction about Open House were delivered by Mrs. Zeena Sunil (Coordinator, Railway Childline, TVC). The presidential address was delivered by Fr. Saji Elambasseril (Director, Childline TVPM), and the programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Suja Devi (Pettah Ward Councilor, TVPM).

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Riyas Raja (Circle Inspector, Pettah Police Station, TVPM). Mrs. Roshni (CDPO, ICDS Project Officer, Urban 2), Mrs. Ida (HM, Govt. Pettah High School, TVPM), Mrs. Tharuni (ICDS Supervisor, Pettah ward), Mrs. Bindhu V (Anganwadi Teacher, Pettah Ward, TVPM) and Mrs. Sheela V (Anganwadi Teacher, Pettah Ward, TVPM), conveyed their felicitation to the programme.

Ms. Aiswarya Lawrence (Team Member, Railway Childline) conducted an icebreaking session for the Children. 43 children and 35 adults participated. The programme was hosted by Mr. Rejeesh Raj (Team Member, Railway Childline), and the programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Jeffin John (Team Member, Railway Childline, TVC).

During the Open House programme, the children and parents freely interacted with the authorities regarding their needs and problems. The special guest and panellist members assured that action will be taken for every problem raised before them.  The children raised before the panellists their queries, problems, present situations, family crisis, and complications in their society. The panellists, especially the Circle Inspector, Ward Councilor, and CDPO, encouraged the children and assured all the facilities to them.

The Head Mistress said that most of the children are coming from poor family backgrounds and they need counselling sessions for both parents and children. She also mentioned that some children have drug addiction and mobile phone addiction problems. The school authorities ensured that they embraced the children in every situation and assured their safety of the children. The Anganwadi teachers also interacted with the people. The ICDS Supervisor addressed the audience of the programme and gave a brief description of the health-related issues which has an issue among adolescence.   

Railway Childline is an active and effective part of Childline. The outreach programs of the project mainly focused on child protection and providing awareness about Childline and its activities.
